You won’t believe the real reason Aubameyang didn’t play in Chelsea’s defeat to Man City! As Sterling and Pulisic suffer from injuries

Chelsea are facing a growing injury list and a difficult run of form following another defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup third round.

The Blues were unable to field Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang due to a back issue, while Christian Pulisic is expected to be out for several weeks after suffering a knee injury in the previous Premier League match against Manchester City. Raheem Sterling, who was also injured in that match, remains out with a hamstring problem.

In the FA Cup match, Chelsea made six changes to the team that had been defeated 1-0 in the Premier League, with manager Graham Potter forced to do so due to the injuries.

Marc Cucurella, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Denis Zakaria were rotated out of the side, with Lewis Hall, Bashir Humphreys, Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, Jorginho and Mason Mount coming into the team. Despite this, the Blues were unable to withstand the pressure from Manchester City and ended up losing 4-0.

The defensive introductions were among the better performers for Chelsea, but the team as a whole struggled against their opponents.

The away supporters at the Etihad Stadium made their frustration clear throughout the match, but Potter remains confident that they will be back on his side if the team can turn around their performances. He said in a post-match interview:

“I understand their frustration and I understand when you look at the result and the team performance today, it’s some far away from Manchester City. That’s clear.

We have to focus on the next day and the next match. We play on Thursday, it’s an important game for us. We need to stay together as group, we need to support each other and I’m sure we’ll get the support of the supporters when they see good performances and good results.”
