Mikel Arteta and Edu, the key figures at Arsenal, are meticulously planning for a busy summer transfer window as they aim to strengthen the Gunners squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Following an impressive 2022/23 Premier League campaign, where Arsenal finished second, a mere five points behind champions Manchester City after spending a significant 240 days at the top, the club is determined to build on their success.

Arteta and Edu have already identified the areas where reinforcements are needed and have shortlisted their desired signings for the summer. While incoming players are a priority, departures are also expected.

One of the first players likely to leave is Granit Xhaka, who is on the verge of joining Bayer Leverkusen in a £13 million deal, with advanced talks underway. Furthermore, Kieran Tierney and Folarin Balogun are also expected to depart in search of more regular playing time.

These potential exits could generate approximately £60 million in sales, supplementing the substantial £180 million budget granted to Arteta by owner Stan Kroenke.

If all goes according to plan, Arsenal could enter the 2023/24 season with four marquee signings, exceeding the £200 million mark in total spending. Fabrizio Romano, renowned for his transfer insights, revealed on his Here We Go podcast that Arteta is primarily focused on strengthening the midfield, aiming to secure the services of Declan Rice and an additional midfielder. Additionally, a new full-back and centre-back are also on the club’s wishlist as they strive to bring in top-quality players for the upcoming campaign.

The pursuit of Declan Rice remains the top priority for Arsenal in the summer transfer window, although Bayern Munich is also vying for his signature. While Arsenal has reportedly made an initial offer of £92 million, West Ham United is holding out for a higher fee, closer to £120 million. Discussions regarding the transfer are expected to take place after the Europa Conference League final on June 7.

Defensive reinforcement is crucial for Arsenal, as highlighted by the injury to William Saliba, which exposed the lack of depth in the backline. Rob Holding’s performances have been deemed insufficient, emphasizing the need for an upgrade.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is high on Arteta’s wishlist, although Tottenham Hotspur has also expressed interest. Palace, however, is reluctant to part ways with the former Chelsea player and has set an asking price of £50 million.

Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen is another defender being considered by Arsenal, with the German club potentially hesitant to sell following the impending departure of Evan Ndicka on a free transfer.

In addition to Rice, Arsenal is likely to secure the services of an advanced midfielder. Mason Mount from Chelsea and Mohamed Kudus from Ajax have emerged as strong contenders for this role, with Gabri Veiga also being considered.

While Manchester United is believed to have agreed on personal terms with Mount, the Gunners retain genuine interest in the talented Chelsea player. Kudus, on the other hand, has rejected a new contract at Ajax and is expected to make a significant move this summer.

The versatile nature of Kudus, capable of playing as a right-midfielder, makes him an appealing prospect for Arteta. The potential cost of signing Kudus is estimated at £40 million.

Finally, Arteta is keen on bolstering the right-back position, with Ivan Fresneda from Real Valladolid and Mohamed Simakan from RB Leipzig being discussed internally as potential targets.

Arsenal had previously considered Fresneda in the January transfer window, drawn to his ability to play as an inverted full-back at just 18 years old. Simakan possesses a similar versatility, capable of featuring as both a right-back and a central defender.
