Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly considering a surprising move for Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, who has impressed with his recent performances.

The Norwegian international proved to be one of the Gunners’ most influential players as they launched a spirited title challenge, ultimately finishing five points behind champions Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, will be determined to hold on to his key players, which means it would take a substantial offer from PSG to convince the Gunners to sell Odegaard. The midfielder’s impact this season cannot be overlooked, as he scored an impressive 15 goals and provided eight assists in 37 appearances.

Odegaard’s goal tally ranks him joint third among midfielders in a single Premier League campaign, with only Matt Le Tissier and Dele Alli ahead of him. The Daily Mail reports that PSG has taken notice of his exceptional displays and is contemplating a potential move for the talented midfielder.

However, the prospect of a deal won’t come without challenges. Odegaard is said to be content with life in London and is considered a key figure in Arteta’s future plans for the team. If Arsenal aims to mount another title challenge in the upcoming season, retaining their best players, including Odegaard, is crucial.

Despite Arsenal reportedly having a summer transfer budget of around £180 million, plus potential player sales, they are reluctant to part ways with Odegaard as they prepare for their return to Champions League football.

Granit Xhaka is expected to leave the Emirates to rejoin his former club Bayer Leverkusen, leaving a void in Arsenal’s midfield. Arteta is keen on replacing Xhaka with West Ham United captain Declan Rice, as per TEAMtalk.

The Daily Mail also suggests that Arsenal might consider selling Thomas Partey to generate additional funds. Losing another key midfielder like Odegaard would be far from ideal in these circumstances. Thus, PSG would need to present a substantial offer to persuade Arsenal to consider selling their prized asset.

The report does not disclose a specific price tag for Odegaard. Transfermarkt currently values him at approximately £80 million, but it is unlikely that this amount alone would be sufficient to sway Arsenal’s decision.

Apart from Xhaka and Partey, Arsenal might see further departures, with players like Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney potentially leaving the club this summer. The Gunners are undoubtedly poised for significant changes in their squad.

However, losing Odegaard would undoubtedly be a scenario that Arteta is eager to avoid. The battle to retain the Norwegian midfielder will surely be one of Arsenal’s top priorities as they aim to build a competitive team for the upcoming season.
