Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, with the Scotland international open to a move to the Etihad Stadium.
Tierney has been dislodged by Oleksandr Zinchenko in the Arsenal side in recent months, and the Gunners are reportedly willing to sell the 26-year-old for a fee of £35m.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Paul Brown said that Tierney would be “keen” on a move to City, and that the club are “exploring” the possibility of a deal.
“I still think he’s a really good player,” Brown said. “When he first went to Arsenal, he was that real kind of leadership material, and he gave them something that they just didn’t have, there was a sort of drive and determination there that really helps move them forward.
“I think in an ideal world, he’d actually probably be getting in the team at Arsenal every week and playing and being a key part of it again. I think essentially Arsenal would quite like for that to happen too but because they’ve signed players since there’s a lot more competition in that area of the pitch.
“So I think, you know, there’s no guarantee really that Tierney plays very much next season, and he might need a fresh start. I could see why he potentially would be thinking ‘Look, it’s going to be tough for me to get in this team much, and I need to be somewhere where I’m playing games.’ So yeah, I think if City’s interest does become more serious, I think he would love for that move to happen.”
Tierney would not be the first Arsenal player to move to City in recent years, following in the footsteps of David Silva, Alexis Sanchez, and Samir Nasri.
If City are able to sign Tierney, he would add a new dimension to their attack, with his ability to get forward and create chances. He would also provide cover for Joao Cancelo, who has been used at left-back this season.
City are not the only club interested in Tierney, however. Celtic are also said to be keen on the player, and he could return to his former club in search of regular playing time.
Newcastle United are also in the mix, and they are reportedly the favourites to sign Tierney. The Magpies are willing to offer him a significant salary, and they could provide him with the opportunity to play in the Champions League.
Tierney’s future is likely to become clearer in the coming weeks, as City and the other interested clubs continue to negotiate with Arsenal.
