Arsenal will not make any new signings unless they are “100% convinced” of the player’s suitability for the club, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in an exclusive interview with GIVEMESPORT.

Head coach Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar are focused on enhancing the quality of the Gunners’ squad as they prepare for their first Champions League campaign since the 2016/17 season.

Recent reports from MailSport suggest that Arsenal is preparing a second bid of £100m for West Ham United captain Declan Rice, after their initial offer of £80m was turned down. With Granit Xhaka set to join Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, signing a midfield replacement is Arteta’s immediate priority.

Romano also revealed that Arsenal is in discussions regarding a potential deal for Manchester City’s out-of-contract midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, indicating the club’s proactive approach in the transfer market. However, Romano emphasized that Arsenal’s decision-making hinges on being fully convinced of a player’s suitability.

He cited last summer’s failed pursuit of then-Leeds United winger Raphinha and January’s eventual signing of Brighton & Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard as examples of Arsenal’s cautious strategy.

Romano explained, “For Arsenal, it is always important in the line of strategy. They go for the player if they are 100% convinced. Otherwise, they prefer to wait. Look at Raphinha, for example.

Last summer, they wanted Raphinha but had no chance to agree on a fee for him.So, they decided to wait until January to sign any winger in Trossard. So, this is why, for Arsenal, it’s important to find the right player in the right position.”

Arsenal’s transfer strategy in recent times has yielded positive results. Last summer, the acquisitions of Manchester City duo Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko transformed the Gunners from a team battling for European football to genuine Premier League title contenders. Additionally, the signing of Leandro Trossard provided improved options for wide players at a sensible price of £21m.

As Arsenal aims to bridge the gap with Manchester City and challenge for the Premier League title next season, Arteta and Edu must continue working collaboratively to make astute signings during the upcoming transfer window.

The club’s emphasis on quality over haste has served them well, and this prudent approach should guide their future endeavors in the market.
