Arsenal is intensifying their efforts to secure the signature of highly sought-after Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, as reports suggest he favors a move to the London club over German giants Bayern Munich. Timber’s potential transfer to Arsenal appears to be on the verge of completion.

According to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Bayern Munich has expressed interest in signing Timber. However, despite Bayern’s admiration, they have not yet made an official offer.

Even if they were to make a bid, Timber is reportedly uninterested in joining them due to the struggles faced by several of his former Ajax teammates at the German club during the previous season.

Players such as Noussair Mazraoui, Ryan Gravenberch, and Daley Blind were limited to bit-part roles in Bavaria.

The report from De Telegraaf further reveals that Timber is “certain” to depart Ajax during the current transfer window, with Arsenal emerging as the expected destination for the talented defender.

While Arsenal has submitted an initial offer in the region of €35 million (£30 million), it falls short of Ajax’s valuation of €60 million (£51 million).

Nevertheless, De Telegraaf remains confident that a transfer is imminent and suggests that finalizing the deal with Timber is now a mere formality.

The negotiations are expected to result in a contract extension for the player until 2028, with Timber’s agent, Christopher Coffie, reportedly having reached a broad agreement with Arsenal over the terms.

Should Arsenal successfully negotiate with Ajax, there should be no hurdles in the way of Timber’s move to the Gunners. The report even highlights the potential for Timber to earn a weekly wage of around €150,000 (£128,000), placing him among the club’s highest-paid players.

While it is likely that Timber would initially receive a slightly lower salary upon joining Arsenal, the financial package on offer would undoubtedly be tempting for the talented 22-year-old.

Timber’s versatility, capable of playing both as a right back and a center back, adds further appeal to Arsenal’s pursuit of the young defender.

His arrival at the Emirates Stadium would provide the Gunners with a much-needed injection of quality and potential for the years to come. As Arsenal seeks to bolster their defensive ranks, Timber’s acquisition would represent a significant step in their ongoing rebuilding process.
