Chelsea Eye Danish Sensation Rasmus Hojlund to Boost Their Attacking Force

Chelsea’s lack of goalscoring prowess proved to be their downfall in the previous season, particularly in the Premier League. Despite conceding just 47 league goals, a tally bettered by only six teams, they struggled to find the back of the net, managing a mere 38 goals in 38 matches.

To put it into perspective, even relegated sides Leeds United and Leicester City recorded higher goal tallies, highlighting the pressing issue at Stamford Bridge.

Not a single player at Chelsea reached double figures in terms of goals, with centre-forwards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Armando Broja mustering just three and one goal respectively.

It should be noted that Broja missed a significant portion of the season due to a cruciate ligament injury, sidelining him for 30 games.

Recent reports from the Evening Standard link Chelsea with a move for Danish sensation Rasmus Hojlund, who currently plies his trade at Atalanta.

The potential transfer fee could reach approximately £86m, indicating that Atalanta is reluctant to part ways with one of their prized assets unless a substantial offer is presented.

Mauricio Pochettino undoubtedly needs a prolific striker for the upcoming campaign, and the acquisition of Hojlund could prove to be a shrewd investment. At just 20 years old, the Danish talent possesses immense potential and is expected to continue improving in the years to come.

Could Rasmus Hojlund be a suitable replacement for Armando Broja? The young Dane enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2022/2023, both at club and international level.

He netted an impressive 16 goals for his club, along with seven assists, while also registering five goals in five appearances for Denmark. His standout performance came in March, where he scored a remarkable hat-trick against Finland.

Given Pochettino’s quest for a clinical finisher in the opposition penalty area, Hojlund could potentially surpass Broja in terms of impact. Last season, the Danish sensation recorded higher metrics in shots per 90 (2.58 to 1.84), shot-creating actions per 90 (2.75 to 1.22), and goals and assists per 90 (0.64 to 0.31) compared to Broja. These statistics indicate that Hojlund could significantly enhance Chelsea’s attacking options.

Additionally, Hojlund’s ability to provide key passes (0.8 per game) and create scoring opportunities, including big chances, sets him apart from Broja, who struggled in these areas. It is worth noting that Broja’s figures may have been impacted by his limited game time due to injury.

Reputed journalist Sacha Pisani describes Hojlund as “scary quick,” which adds another dimension to his game and would undoubtedly endear him to the Chelsea faithful.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig goes even further, dubbing the Danish sensation as a “monster in the making.” With his impressive performances during his stint in Serie A with Atalanta, Chelsea believes that a move to the Premier League could elevate his game to new heights.

If Chelsea wishes to contend for silverware in the upcoming season, a significant improvement in their attacking output is imperative.

Acquiring the services of Rasmus Hojlund this summer would undoubtedly provide them with a substantial boost, injecting much-needed potency into their frontline.

As the transfer window progresses, Chelsea’s pursuit of Hojlund will be closely monitored. If successful, it could prove to be a pivotal move in their quest for success in the coming season.
