Arsenal’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements has led them to express interest in Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, as manager Mikel Arteta looks to revitalize his team’s engine room this summer.

Following Granit Xhaka’s departure to Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal announced the signing of Declan Rice, thus resolving their midfield conundrum. However, reports suggest that the Gunners may still seek further additions to strengthen their midfield options.

Recent rumors from FootballTransfers indicated Arsenal’s interest in Tchouameni, with the 23-year-old midfielder reportedly added to their list of targets. Although no official bid has been made as yet, Arsenal’s pursuit of the Frenchman remains an intriguing prospect.

Arsenal correspondent Kaya Kaynak from football.london provided an update on the situation, suggesting that while a move for Tchouameni may seem unlikely due to financial considerations, it would be premature to rule out the possibility.

Kaynak stated, “It’s hard to really say what is and isn’t financially viable for Arsenal before they get some sales done. All of that money will be available to reinvest into the playing staff this summer. I have to say when you factor in the wages he would likely demand, Tchouameni seems unlikely, but then again Arsenal have spent £105m on Declan Rice this summer, so I’m not sure we can rule anything out.”

Valued at around €63 million (£54 million) by FootballTransfers, signing Tchouameni would undoubtedly be a statement of intent from Arsenal. The French midfielder has established himself as a top performer on the continent, boasting impressive statistics in pass completion rate and interceptions, ranking him among the top 1% of players in Europe in these categories, as per FBref.

Tchouameni’s exceptional pass completion rate of 92.9% per 90 minutes over the past year highlights his ability to control the midfield and contribute to his team’s play.

Such qualities would undoubtedly bolster Arteta’s side, particularly benefiting players like Martin Odegaard, who was Arsenal’s Player of the Year last season. Odegaard thrived with the cover provided by Xhaka and would likely flourish even further with a competent defensive presence like Tchouameni behind him.

The Gunners’ captain averaged 7.66 progressive passes and 2.19 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League last season, showcasing his attacking prowess in the number 10 role.

Xhaka’s ability to distribute the ball with an average of 5.89 progressive passes per 90 was instrumental in unlocking Odegaard’s potential. Tchouameni, with his average of 6.03 progressive passes per 90 in La Liga last season, could replicate Xhaka’s contributions and elevate Odegaard’s game to new heights.

Securing Tchouameni’s services would be a significant coup for Arsenal and a significant step toward building a title-challenging squad. The French midfielder’s rise to prominence since joining Real Madrid from Monaco has been impressive, earning him praise from media outlets and establishing him as one of the finest young midfielders in Europe. With 25 caps for France and notable contributions in international tournaments, Tchouameni’s potential impact on Arsenal’s midfield cannot be overstated.

As the summer transfer window unfolds, Arsenal’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements intensifies. While the financial aspect remains a key consideration, the possibility of acquiring a talent like Aurelien Tchouameni would undoubtedly bolster Arsenal’s ambitions and signal their intent to compete at the highest level.
