Barcelona are in talks to sign Arsenal starlet Miguel Azeez, who has been tipped to become a “great player” by former teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 20-year-old midfielder has only made one first-team appearance for Arsenal and spent last season on loan at second-tier Spanish side Ibiza before joining Wigan Athletic, who suffered relegation from the Championship.
Azeez’s time at Wigan was controversial, however, as he was involved in a bust-up with manager Shaun Maloney after the Latics’ relegation to League One was confirmed.
Despite this, Barcelona are still keen to sign Azeez and are reportedly willing to offer him a contract with their B team, who currently play in the Spanish third tier.
If Azeez does move to Barcelona, he will be hoping for a smoother ride than he had at Wigan. He will also be hoping to fulfil Aubameyang’s prediction and become a “great player” in the future.
Here are some additional details about Azeez’s disciplinary record:
- He was sent to the academy for a fortnight after showing disrespect to one member of coaching staff at Wigan.
- He was also sent back to Arsenal from both Portsmouth midway through the 2021-22 campaign and Ibiza last term.
Despite these setbacks, Azeez still has the potential to be a top player. He is a calm and mature midfielder with a lot of talent. If he can put his disciplinary issues behind him, he could be a valuable asset for Barcelona in the future.
