14 goals & 11 assists this season: Manchester United join Arsenal and Newcastle in race to sign £65m playmaker – report

Manchester United are reportedly showing a strong interest in securing the services of Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, as stated by a report from the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has emerged as one of the most impressive wingers in the Bundesliga, having had a remarkable season in which he contributed 14 goals and provided 11 assists from 48 appearances across all competitions.

While Arsenal and Newcastle United have previously expressed their admiration for Diaby, it is now believed that the Red Devils have also entered the race to sign him, further intensifying the transfer pursuit.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly set his sights on acquiring a left winger this summer, largely due to the inconsistent form displayed by Jadon Sancho in the previous season.

Although Alejandro Garnacho has served as a reliable backup for Marcus Rashford over the past year, it seems that Ten Hag is keen on bolstering the squad with a more experienced player in that position. Moussa Diaby, with his impressive track record, appears to be an ideal candidate for United’s left flank.

The current valuation for Diaby stands at £65 million, according to the Daily Mail. However, any potential transfer negotiations are expected to be delayed due to ongoing takeover talks that could potentially reshape the club’s future.

While the former Paris Saint-Germain graduate was able to make an impressive impact last season, contributing to a total of 25 goals, it is worth noting that the majority of these contributions came from the right wing position, totaling 17 goal involvements.

Nevertheless, Diaby has demonstrated his versatility by proving equally effective when deployed on the left flank in previous seasons. With 17 goals and 21 assists from 72 games in that role for Bayer Leverkusen, his ability to adapt and perform in different positions would undoubtedly be a valuable asset for Manchester United, offering flexibility and depth to the team’s attacking options.

At present, Manchester United are not actively pursuing transfer talks for Diaby. However, it is believed that the potential acquisition of the talented winger could heavily rely on the outcome of the ongoing takeover discussions.

The club’s main priorities for the summer transfer window are focused on acquiring a marquee striker and a central midfielder. Any further signings may be contingent upon player sales and the financial backing provided by the club’s ownership.

However, should the Glazers agree to sell the club, the situation could change dramatically, as new ownership would likely bring additional financial resources to support transfer activities.

As Manchester United continue to evaluate their options and strategize for the upcoming season, the pursuit of Moussa Diaby remains an intriguing prospect, one that could potentially shape the club’s ambitions for the future.
