Chelsea’s Interest in Emiliano Martinez Not Yet “Concrete,” Says Fabrizio Romano

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is not yet “concrete” at Stamford Bridge. As Mauricio Pochettino prepares for his first season with the Blues, he aims to shape the squad according to his own vision.

Journalist Simon Phillips has reported that individuals within Chelsea are keen for the club to pursue Martinez, who has had another impressive season at Aston Villa.

The same source suggests that members of the Blues’ staff recommended the World Cup winner before the end of the season as the club seeks clarity regarding their goalkeeper situation.

Furthermore, transfer insider Dean Jones recently stated that Martinez could leave Villa Park if the right offer comes in this summer. However, Sky Sports (via The Mirror) reports that Pochettino intends to stick with Kepa Arrizabalaga as his first-choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge.

With Arrizabalaga set to remain at Chelsea, Romano reveals that the club expects Edouard Mendy to depart this summer, with French sides expressing interest in acquiring his services.

As for Martinez, Romano admits he doesn’t have any updates on Chelsea’s pursuit of the goalkeeper but suggests it might be worth monitoring the situation as the transfer window progresses.

Regarding Chelsea’s interest in Martinez, Romano told GIVEMESPORT, “At the moment, I don’t have any updates. It’s not concrete at this stage. Let’s see if something will change later in the window.”

Would Martinez be a good signing for Chelsea? The goalkeeper, hailed as “world-class” by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, has enjoyed an excellent campaign with Villa, helping the team secure qualification for next season’s Europa Conference League.

As a £100,000 per-week earner, Martinez kept an impressive 13 clean sheets in 36 Premier League appearances, conceding only 38 goals as Aston Villa finished in seventh place.
